FFA/Ag

The Palmer Agricultural Education program was started in 1977.  The Palmer FFA Chapter was started in the same year and officially received its charter at the 1978 Nebraska State FFA Convention.  Mr. Arlo Bockerman was hired as the Ag. Education instructor and FFA Advisor.  Mr. Bockerman retired in 2012.  Mr. Dennis Mottl was then hired to assume teaching duties and to be the FFA Advisor.

Over the time period from 1977 to the present the Palmer students have been very competitive in many events including soil and range evaluation, livestock judging, leadership skills events and many career development contests.  Several teams and individuals have competed on the state and national levels and received high recognition for their efforts.  Many former students cite the experiences they had Ag. Ed. class as providing valuable insite into their selecting agriculture as a career choice.  Many have returned to the Palmer area to make their homes, raise their families and involve themselves in the community.  The tradition of pride, success and loyalty to the Palmer Ag. Ed. program and FFA Chapter remain a strong part of past students values.

Today the need for young people to assume roles in the agricultural field is great.  The career opportunities are almost endless.  New career areas with exciting jobs are being created as science and research advance into "New Frontiers" of agricultural.  Production agriculture and all the support needed to produce food for America and the world will increase in the future.  It remains the goal of the Palmer Ag Ed. program to creat student interest in assuming careers in agriculture.
