7th grade reading is designed to enhance and expand young readers minds to assist with reading process throughout their life.

Requirements for 7th grade reading:

Read 30 books

7 1st and 2nd quarter

8 3rd and 4th quarter

If a student reads more than the required amount per quarter, the book/s count towards the next quarter.

The students can get credit for up to 4 books in the summer if they can write a detailed summary and talk to the teacher about the book.

The students are required to take 4 AR test per quarter.

The students have choices in the books as follows:

Poetry 5

Traditional Literature 5

Realistic Fiction 5

Historical Fiction 2

Fantasy 4

Science Fiction 2

Mystery 2

Informational (NonFiction) 4

Biography, autobiography, memoir 2

Chapter book Choice 9.

This is a total of 40 books, which is the ultimate goal. But we only grade on 30, and will give bonus at the end of the year for books read over the amount.

Students will have 30-35 minutes a day in Reading Class, plus AR time that is allotted throughout the day.

Students will learn about different text structures, take notes, complete worksheets, complete reading plus sessions, and participate in activities all designed to boost reading performance.

They will have a writing journal and a workbook.

8th grade reading has some similar and some different requirements.
